Our courses are accredited and/or recognised by some of the leading hypnotherapy and psychotherapy institutions in the world.

Accreditation and Recognition

The NCHP policy has been to seek meaningful external accreditation for our training.

The first level of our training (our Stage 1 Foundation Course) is accredited by the National Guild of Hypnotists (NGH) of the USA, and earns a Statement of Attainment from the National College of Hypnosis and Psychotherapy in the UK.

People undertaking our Foundation Course are eligible for student membership of the Australian Hypnotherapists' Association and the Australian Society of Clinical Hypnotherapists.  Our Stage 2 Certificate course meets the requirements for membership at Associate level of the Australian Hypnotherapists Association (AHA) and for membership at Intern level of the Australian Society of Clinical Hypnotherapists (ASCH).  On successful completion of the Certificate course, graduates are eligible for Licentiate membership of the National College Students and Alumni Guild in the UK.  Our Level 3 Diploma training meets the requirements for Professional clinical membership of the AHA and the ASCH. Our Level 4 Advanced Diploma is a four year course meeting the education requirements for entry to a number of respected institutions. Further details on these is provided in the summary hereunder.

Note to potential students: Some enquirers have asked why the National College is not affiliated with certain 'Hypnotherapy Organisations'.  The NCHP-A agrees with our alliance partners, the NCHP-UK, in the policy that we will only align ourselves with organisations which have meaningful and verifiable means of accreditation. The profession has many organisations which have certificate for a fee. We, as one of the oldest schools of professional hypnosis and psychotherapy, believe that we should take a leadership position with this and not support bodies which have only been created to give out meaningless credentials and to turn a profit for its owners.

In Summary, our courses accreditation and recognition stands as follows:

The Australian Hypnotherapists Association (www.ahahypnotherapy.org.au)

The AHA recognises our courses as meeting the education requirements for        membership at Associate (Stage 2 Certificate Course) and Professional clinical        (Stage 3 Diploma) levels.

The Australian Society of Clinical Hypnotherapists (www.asch.com.au)

The ASCH recognises our courses as meeting the education requirements for membership at Intern (Stage 2 Certificate Course) and Professional (Stage 3 Diploma) levels.

United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (www.psychotherapy.org.uk)

NCHP-A students may be interested to know that the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), formerly the United Kingdom Standing Conference for Psychotherapy, was formed in 1989 with the aim of establishing the profession of psychotherapy in the UK, with agreed common training standards and ethical requirements. Over 70 organisations involved in the field of psychotherapy including both the National College of Hypnosis and Psychotherapy (NCHP-UK) and the National College Students and Alumni Guild, (NCSAG) currently belong to the UKCP.

In May 1993, the UKCP produced Training and Ethical Standards Requirements for member organisations. The National College's training programme has been confirmed as meeting UKCP requirements and the UKCP ethical guidelines are incorporated within the Code of Ethics and Practice of both the NCHP-UK and the NCHP-A.

European Association for Psychotherapy (www.europsyche.org)

The EAP represents 128 organisations (including 28 national umbrella associations, 17 European-wide associations, for psychotherapy) from 41 European countries and by that more than 120,000 psychotherapists.  Membership is also open for individual psychotherapists. Based on the 'Strasbourg Declaration of Psychotherapy of 1990' the EAP represents high training standards for a scientifically based and independent practice of psychotherapy.

The National College of Hypnosis and Psychotherapy is a European Accredited Psychotherapy Training Institute with the EAP.  The inspection was comprehensive and included inspection of course materials, organisational structure, faculty, and students.  To become an European Association for Psychotherapy Training Institution (EAPTI) an organisation must be accredited by both the National Awarding Body for Psychotherapy, in NCHP's case UKCP, and the European Wide Awarding Organisation, in NCHP's case the European Association for Hypno-Psychotherapy (details below).

Currently, there are 45 such institutes throughout Europe, but the NCHP-UK is one of only two such institutes in the UK. As alliance partner of NCHP-UK, all NCHP-A students undergo training which includes, as a minimum, the NCHP-UK course material. All examinations and assessments are either marked or checked by NCHP-UK examiners in the United Kingdom. Stage 2-3 and 4 Certification and Diplomas are issued from the NCHP-UK. Accordingly, all NCHP-A students can enjoy the comfort of knowing their course is one of a relative few, and the only one available in Australia, accredited by the UKCP and the European Association for Hypno-Psychotherapy.

European Association for Hypno Psychotherapy (www.hypno-psychotherapy.com)

The NCHP-UK is a founder member of the European Association for Hypno-Psychotherapy (EAHP).  The EAHP is a non-profit making organisation aiming to unite national Hypno-Psychotherapy training institutes and national Hypno-Psychotherapy organisations into a common association for Europe.

The Open University (UK) (www.open.ac.uk)

Since 1997, the NCHP-UK has enjoyed generous credit transfer from the British Open University.   For students who are interested in having their training validated through the Open University in the UK, contact the office at enquiries@nchp.org.uk.

Students of NCHP-A will enjoy the same credit point benefits as NCHP-UK students.

The National Council for Hypnotherapy (www.hypnotherapists.org.uk)

The National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH) holds one of the largest registers of independent hypnotherapists in the United Kingdom and strives to maintain the highest standards among its members. For full details of the NCHP-A, download our Prospectus.
